Submitting the NMSN For Review

What You Need to Do

  1. Identify and contact the state child enforcement agency you want to work with in the case.
  2. Provide the state agency the information it requires. Examples include:
  • The employee's name, last known mailing address, and Social Security Number
  • The name(s) and last known mailing address of the child(ren) or the name and address of the child(ren)'s representative
  • The child(ren)'s full Social Security Number or last 4 digits of the Social Security Number
  • A description of the type of coverage to be provided to the child(ren)
  • The employer's name
  1. After the state agency completes and mails the form, wait 15 business days to receive a written response about the determination of the notice. If the employee chose no health coverage, the state agency will be given an additional 20 business days to choose coverage for the child(ren).

What the State Agency Will Do

  1. Complete the National Medical Support Notice (NMSN) form using the information you provided.
  2. Submit the NMSN by mailing the form to:

What the Qualified Order Center Will Do

Once the NMSN is received, the Qualified Order Center will:

  • Review the NMSN to determine whether it's qualified or denied.
  • Notify all interested people in 15 business days of receiving the NMSN whether it meets all qualification requirements.
  • Give the state agency 20 additional business days to choose health coverage for the child(ren), if the employee isn't already enrolled in coverage.
  • Send the following, as appropriate, to all people named in the NMSN and their designated representatives:
    • Copy of the NMSN procedures
    • Determination letter
    • Copy of the NMSN

Did You Know?

It takes <strong>15 business days</strong> from the time a National Medical Support Notice is received for the Qualified Order Center to review it. The Qualified Order Center will then send a written notification by postal mail.
